Dressmaking and sewing courses

I am offering to a limited number of students the chance to learn from me: dressmaking, sewing, pattern design, and fashion design-related subjects. Whether you are after lifelong skills like making or mending your own clothes, to pursuing a professional career; whether you have a background in fashion or you are a complete beginner, my lessons cater for everyone. With decades of experience as a fashion designer and garment technologist, both as a freelance as well as developing my own brand, and can help you to develop your designs whilst you learn.

For students, makers, learners and everyone, you can book me for 1 session ( 2 hours long ), 6 sessions ( 12 hours long silver package) or 10 sessions (20 hours gold package), and the lessons will be tailored to your needs. With a silver or gold package, you can create any garment that you like or one that you have designed, or you can use the lessons to learn more specific skills like pattern cutting, usage of sewing machines, or sewing techniques, for instance. The packages include just the use of machines and tools, although not fabrics (these would have to be provided by yourself depending on the project that you are making).

If you prefer to do a pre-planned course I recommend starting with any of the courses below, to learn the basics properly by making a complete garment from scratch. These courses include everything needed to make the garment pictures, from patterns to fabrics, haberdashery, tools, machines, etc., hence the price is a bit higher than the packages. Lessons can be booked well in advance to just days in advance.

*GROUP SESSIONS: "Beginner's Dressmaking Crash Course: The Shift Dress" starting Saturdays from May 2021 onwards. Price £180/person. The group will have max. 4 people per group. Please email me if you are interested in enrolling, thank you!

*All the prices are on a 1-to-1 basis; for more than one person in the same class, just add £10 per person per hour.

*All classes are held in my lovely studio in a Manchester city centre mill; courses include the usage of patterns, tools, sewing machines as well as basic materials . Feel free to inquire!

Course number 1

1-to-1 Beginner's Dressmaking Crash Course (8 hours spread in 4 sessions)

£240 (materials included)

Make a sleeveless shift dress from scratch. Learn how to take measurements to choose a size, use a pattern, cut a dress out, serge and sew it. This dress has darts, a centre back zip and armhole and neck facings, so you learn plenty of sewing skills to get you started!

Course number 2

1-to-1 Intermediate Dressmaking Course (10 hours spread in 5 sessions)

£300 (materials included)

Make a 50's style prom dress from scratch. Learn how to take measurements to choose a size, use a pattern, cut a dress out, serge and sew it. This dress has a boned top, a concealed side zip and a semi-circular skirt, so it is the perfect ad-on to your basic class!

Course number 3

1-to-1 Bomber Jacket Course (12 hours spread in 6 sessions)

£360 (materials included)

Make a classic bomber jacket from scratch (male or female). Learn how to take measurements to choose a size, use a pattern, cut the bomber out, serge and sew it. This jacket has cuffs, collar and a waistband made in ribbing, plus a front zip, (and pockets if time allows) and is good for beginners too.

1-to-1 Tailored dress with sleeves Course (12 hours spread in 6 sessions)

£360 (materials included)

Make a classic tailored dress from scratch. Learn how to take measurements to choose a size, use a pattern, cut the dress out, serge and sew it. This dress has a zip, sleeves, V-neck and a pencil skirt and it is good for beginners too.
